Want to Dress Like Avril? (I Don't.)

Avril Lavigne, the rock star known for her kohl-rimmed eyes, is teaming up with retailer Kohl’s and launching her own rocker-chick clothing line in July.

Dubbed Abbey Dawn (Lavigne’s childhood nickname), the back-to-school juniors’ collection will draw on the eclectic contents of Lavigne’s own closet: “a lot of hot pinks and blacks and stars and purple and zebra,” she says. “Basically, everything I wear.” (But nope, there’s nary a necktie.)

“I have a very particular style,” says Lavigne, 23 — one that’s often replicated by her fans and one that’s not readily available at the local mall. “I want it to be available to a lot of girls, and I want it to be affordable.” Apparel prices will range from $24 to $48. “I walked through (a Los Angeles) Kohl’s the other day and said, ‘Oh, when my line is here it’s totally going to stand out.’ ”

Mixing skulls and plaids with checks and stripes, it’s “a rock collection with a feminine edge,” says Don Brennan of Kohl’s. “I think it will broaden who we bring into our junior department,” which is dominated by the Candie’s brand (last month, Hayden Panettiere was named the new spokeswoman).

Unlike other celebrity-endorsed collections, Lavigne stresses she’s not just entering into a licensing deal. “I actually am the designer. What’s really important to me is that everything fits well and is well-made, so I try everything on and approve it all.”

And she says she’ll actually wear it, including on stage during her Best Damn Tour, which launches today in her native Canada, in Victoria, British Columbia. The second she can get herself into an Abbey Dawn hoodie and pair of jeans (her most-anticipated pieces), she will. “I can’t wait,” she says. And “juniors” label notwithstanding, “I’m making sure that I think people in their 20s are going to wear it because it’s going to be a sexy fit, not just, ‘Oh, T-shirts and hoodies.’ The hoodies are slimming. It’s not a thick, bulky material.”

Having conquered the music industry (her third album, 2007’s The Best Damn Thing, made its debut at No. 1), Lavigne says she’s thrilled to be tapping into a “new creative energy” through fashion. “I’m very visual. It’s time for me to do something new.”

There’s another visual medium she’s looking to put her stamp on. “I want to — it’s just going to sound crazy, but I’m going to make it happen — I want a film career,” says Lavigne, who acted in 2006’s Fast Food Nation and voiced a role in the animated Over the Hedge. “So I go on auditions, I read scripts. It’s not going to be one of those things, ‘Oh, a singer doing a movie.’ ” Come fall, after her tour, “I’m really going to focus on that.”

Her husband of two years, Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley, is “excited for me because he knows, especially with the clothing, I’ve wanted to do this for a while. He’s really supportive. He likes anything I like pretty much.”

Adriana & Karolina Promote Biofit Bra @ Victoria's Secret (3/4/08)


 

I have seen the commercial for this bra and now look who was at the local Victoria’s Secret. I actually read an article about Victoria’s Secret earnings slipping recently and I completely understand why. So many other bra companies make a better product when it really comes down to it. Yes, Victoria’s Secret has some cute bras but not for regular wear. I spent 50 dollars on a VS bra, a few years ago, but still to this day I have probably only worn it 6x. It pinches, pokes, looks terrible under clothes, and it is just plain impractical. I learned my lesson, now I stick with other products like Natori and Elle Macpherson. I could honestly say Victoria’s Secret has the market for inexperienced/young shoppers. For me, I will not be a repeat buyer. When I was young, I would buy there regularly because I didn’t know any better but no more… No matter how much I adore Adriana, no Victoria’s Secret bras will grace this body. Maybe this new Biofit bra is decent but I will never know. Anyone tried it?

Hayden Panettiere for Candies

 

As we all probably know, Hayden Panettiere is the new face for Candies shoes. I personally love these photos. Hayden looks amazing and I love the colors and youthfulness of these ads. One thing that bugs me about Hayden is that she seems to already be extremely full of herself. I guess it was bound to happen since she has become so popular at such a young age. The thing is, she is only 18, she still has a lot to learn. Older people don’t want to hear this little girl acting like she knows everything. I am sure she will make her share of mistakes. For all we know, she will turn into a drunk slut like Lindsay Lohan or maybe she will be the next pregnant Hollywood teen. What do you guys think?

Ahh, My Girlfriend Part II (2/29/008)


More Adriana. My favorite VS Angel walking the catwalk in Fashion Fest 2008 Spring/Summer at Liverpool Santa Fe in Mexico City. She looks amazing. I can’t help but wonder how these girls on America’s Next Top Model could ever compete with a girl like Adriana. The winners have always been very plain, vanilla types, nothing too exciting. Most recent winner, Salisha, or previous, Jaslene, in my opinion, could never in a million years take the place of Adriana. I have zero interest in seeing those girls but Adriana always catches my eye.

Alyssa Milano for PETA

The very famous, very sexy, very vegetarian, Alyssa Milano, is wearing nothing but salad for the folks at PETA.

The ad is part of PETA’s, Let Vegetarianism Grow On You campaign and features the actress turned sportswear designer in what looks to be a gown of collard greens and a corset made from asparagus and cabbage leaves.

Along with posing, Milano is asking her fans to boycott meat and visit PETA’s website for more information and some delicious free recipes.

Nicole Kidman's 1400 Carat Necklace.

An extraordinary rough and polished diamond sautoir necklace designed by L’Wren Scott debuted on the Red Carpet today at the 80th Academy Awards. The spectacular sautoir, worn by Oscar Presenter Nicole Kidman, contains a total of 7645 diamonds including rough, faceted, and polished diamonds, which total nearly 1400 carats.

The sautoir, which was designed by Scott, produced and manufactured by Uni-Design Ltd. in Paris and India uses a wide range of shapes and cuts of diamonds. Each diamond was individually selected by the designer to fit together into an overall design. The intricate design required in excess of 6200 man hours to handcraft. Diamonds have never been used in such a truly unique way on the Red Carpet. It is a tribute to the visionary direction of the designer that such an astounding quantity of diamonds can be worn so effortlessly.

Think You've Got What it Takes?

Nine cycles of America’s Next Top Model have come and gone.  Previous contestants and winners have appeared on television shows, commercials, and runways all over the world.  This week, the show will debut its tenth season this Wednesday, with no signs of slowing down.  Host Tyra Banks appears on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly and talks about the staying power of her show.  ”I thought it was going to last for two seasons,” she admitted to the mag. ”Around season five, I said, ‘Ken, how far can we go — eight?’ He goes, ‘I’m thinking 10.’ Now we’re at ten and not stopping.”  Casting has already begun for the eleventh cycle with dates and locations posted on the CW’s website.

The non-stop shooting schedule of filming America’s Next Top Model and The Tyra Banks Show certainly has kept the host busy.  Entertainment Weekly calls her a mogul but a humble Banks dismisses the title.   ”Oprah Winfrey is a mogul. Martha Stewart is a mogul. I’m probably a mogul in the making. I’m almost there.”  The mogul in the making will be back doing what she does best when ANTM cycle 11 premieres Wednesday, February 20 at 9pm ET.

The New Face of Max Factor.

Move over Carmen Electra, Gisele Bunchen is taking over. Rumor on the block is that Gisele has signed on to be the face of Max Factor. The campaign will start during summer time.

Gisele is reportedly going to be making about $2.5 million dollars for endorsing the brand. She’s apparently very happy because when she was with Victoria’s Secret, she wasn’t able to endorse any other beauty products.

As for what’s gonna happen to Carmen Electra, who knows? Max Factor says that Carmen is still the face of the cosmetic brand but they always say that until they give the boot.
